recent find of d day dry run slip trenches and foxholes at Threemilestone, Truro, Cornwall On the site of the old pub (the oak tree) threemilestone, trenches have been found which is believed to be a practice site for the American troops camped around threemilestone. Cornwall Council have carried out the archeology on the site and will be producing a report at a later date.

With Ref. to the above, this was the start of Marshalling Camp O-C, Truro. This Tented Sealed off Camp could hold up to 2800 troops, tents in fields along side the road with Vehicles parked on the road. A good ref. on the Southwest D-Day Camps is found in > Operation Overlord SOS ETOUSA, HQ Sothern base Section. ANNEX N.8 under Engineer Service, page 6. Miscellaneous / Slit Trenches. 1). Slit Trenches will be dug throughout Marshalling & Embarkation Areas by assault & follow up forces during the concentration. Commandant, X1X District will furnish plans, materials & equipment to task force troops for the accomlishment of the above.
