The 8th U.S. Field Hospital became Cornwalls Station Hospital for U.S. forces including the 29th Division Units Stationed & training in the area prior to D Day. The Hospital was located 1/2 mile south of the Town of Truro, Map Coordinates 143/6724 received its first patients on 15th Dec. 1943 any casualties requiring more extensive hospitalisation or treatment were sent to the 315th U.S. Station Hospital located at Tavistock Devon. The 8th field Hospital finished treating patients in April 1944, of the 2,515 patients none of them died whilst in the care of the 8th. For more info visit the U.S. Medical Research Centre web site. Has anyone done any research or know of any 29er who used this Hospital if so I would like to hear from them. Bob.
